Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Ghazipur district on Thursday to accelerate infrastructure expansion and social welfare initiatives across the region. At a public event, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 268 development projects built at a total cost of Rs 692 crore. Addressing a large gathering, he highlighted Ghazipur's deep historical roots, cultural heritage, and strategic importance, while launching a detailed critique of past administrations under the Samajwadi Party and Congress for plunging the region into a severe identity crisis.
Ghazipur's Historical Legacy and Tribute to National Icons
Speaking at the rally, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to the land of Ghazipur, which has historically produced legendary military figures, scholars, and literary stalwarts. He specifically recalled Martyr Ram Ugra Pandey, a hero of the 1971 India-Pakistan War who was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra, India's second-highest military decoration, for extraordinary gallantry. He noted that the region also birthed eminent Hindi literary essayist Kuber Nath Rai and celebrated novelist Gopal Ram Gahmari, who penned over 200 novels that enriched Indian literature.
Furthermore, Ghazipur holds ancient spiritual significance associated with Lord Parshuram and Maharshi Jamadagni. The Chief Minister questioned why a district with such a illustrious past was allowed to fall into anonymity under previous governments. He remarked that there was a time when people hesitated to mention the name of Ghazipur or visit the area due to rampant lawlessness. According to the Chief Minister, this identity crisis was manufactured by political forces that neglected public development while catering to narrow political interests.
Honoring National Heroes versus Exalting Invaders
In his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the double-engine BJP-NDA government remains committed to honoring national heroes. Drawing from history, he recounted how nearly 1,000 years ago, the invader Salar Masud attempted to overrun the region, but was decisively defeated at Chittaura in Bahraich by the legendary warrior Maharaja Suheldev. He criticized the Samajwadi Party and Congress for failing to acknowledge Maharaja Suheldev's valor and for suppressing commemorations in his honor.
The Chief Minister pointed out that previous regimes permitted annual fairs dedicated to Salar Masud Ghazi, whereas the current administration put an end to such practices to focus on national pride. The government has since constructed a grand memorial and statue honoring Maharaja Suheldev at the historical site in Bahraich. Additionally, a medical college in Bahraich and a university in Azamgarh have been established under the name of Maharaja Suheldev to inspire future generations.
Renaming of Educational Institutions and Historic Districts
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party of repeatedly disrespecting national figures and historical symbols through arbitrary name changes during its tenure. He highlighted that a medical college initially named after Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, as well as another medical college in Kannauj, had their official names altered under SP rule. Similarly, an institution named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, celebrated for her contributions to good governance and cultural restoration, was renamed.
He further noted that the Samajwadi Party government engaged in altering the name of Bhadohi district, which had been designated in honor of Sant Shiromani Sadguru Ravidas Ji Maharaj. The Chief Minister asserted that past administrations not only mismanaged state funds and damaged regional identity, but also consistently eroded the dignity of revered historic personalities.
Decadal Transformation in Uttar Pradesh's Public Standing
Reflecting on the change in perception of Uttar Pradesh residents over the past decade, the Chief Minister recalled that ten years ago, individuals travelling outside the state faced widespread skepticism. People hailing from Ghazipur or Uttar Pradesh often struggled to secure hotel accommodations, guest house rooms, or residential rentals in other parts of the country due to the state's negative reputation at the time.
He stated that the environment has transformed completely under the current administration. Today, residents traveling across India encounter respect and warmth when identifying themselves as natives of Ghazipur, Kashi, or Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister attributed this shift to sustained improvements in law and order, governance, and infrastructure development across the state.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Expressway Irregularities
Turning to economic governance, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath raised specific allegations regarding past infrastructure projects, referencing the Purvanchal Expressway. He alleged that under the previous Samajwadi Party administration, financial irregularities amounting to Rs 3,000 crore took place under the guise of expressway development. Upon taking office, his government reviewed the project files, cancelled the existing arrangements due to discrepancies, re-acquired the required land, and executed the project systematically.
Regarding public sector recruitment, the Chief Minister asserted that job creation in earlier periods was marred by widespread corruption and extortion networks that compromised merit. He stated that political patronage dominated recruitment processes, depriving qualified youth of employment opportunities. He reaffirmed that current recruitment procedures operate under strict transparency and meritocracy.
Law and Order Reforms, Zero Tolerance Policy, and Public Safety
Highlighting the state's security framework, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath contrasted the current stability with past instances where festivals were frequently disrupted by riots, curfews, and civic unrest, which discouraged commercial investment. He noted that law and order has now been restored across all districts.
Commenting on state security, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "In UP now, there is no curfew, no riot, everything is fine." He issued a stern warning that anyone attempting to breach law and order, endanger women or business owners, or undermine youth opportunities would face immediate legal consequences, leaving them with only two destinations: jail or hell.
The Chief Minister invoked the memory of former MLA Krishnanand Rai, who fought against organized crime in Ghazipur before being killed along with 7 youths in a violent attack. He noted that despite overwhelming evidence, mafia figures enjoyed state protection under past governments. Under the current zero-tolerance policy against crime and mafia networks, law enforcement has dismantled criminal syndicates and eliminated state protection for offenders.
Focus on the Four Demographics and Regional Development Roadmap
Addressing political dynamics, the Chief Minister referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's framework identifying four key segments of society: the poor, farmers, women, and youth. He argued that true progress relies on empowering these core groups rather than engaging in divisive caste politics. He warned against political entities that historically fraternized with criminal figures and visited mafia graves to offer prayers.
Concluding his speech, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the Rs 692 crore allocation for 268 projects represents only a portion of ongoing development efforts in Ghazipur. Major infrastructure and connectivity initiatives are underway to transform the district into an economic hub. He urged citizens to elect responsible representatives dedicated to public welfare, contrasting current efforts with past officials who prioritized issuing illegal weapon permits over regional development.
