Speaking at a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh strongly emphasized the critical importance of social unity, warning citizens against political conspiracies aimed at dividing society along caste and religious lines. Addressing the "Khatik Samaj Garjana Sammelan" in Agra on Sunday, he urged the public to stay vigilant against forces seeking to incite divisions for their personal political gains, advocating instead for a cohesive and harmonious society.
The Call for Collective Unity and Social Harmony
In his address, Rajnath Singh highlighted the dangers of social fragmentation, stating that unity is essential for the nation's strength. He used a powerful couplet, saying, "Remember, by breaking we will scatter, but by uniting we will shine." He pointed out that certain political factions systematically try to provoke different communities and create deep rifts in society using caste and religion as tools. The Defense Minister called upon the citizens to take a solemn pledge to resist such instigations, refrain from being misled, and actively prevent any attempts to divide the social fabric. He emphasized that true societal strength comes from mutual affection, cooperation, and standing together through each other's joys and sorrows.
Government's Focus on Inclusive Development and Education
Connecting social harmony to national progress, Rajnath Singh explained that peace and harmony are the absolute prerequisites for prosperity and speedy developmental work. He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is operating with the dual principles of "Antyodaya" (welfare of the last person in line) and "Sarvodaya" (the holistic upliftment of all sections of society). He assured the gathering that the administration's primary objective is to ensure that no child's education is halted due to a lack of financial resources, and no young person is left behind because of a lack of opportunity. The government is actively working to put every citizen on the path of education, employment, and self-reliance. He highlighted that various scholarships are being provided to students, along with financial assistance for pursuing higher education and studying abroad. Additionally, he recalled the Prime Minister's significant announcement during this year's Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, where he promised free online coaching classes for children belonging to poor and middle-class families to ensure equal competitive opportunities.
Emulating the Legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar
The Defense Minister urged the audience to remember and implement the historic teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, particularly his famous guiding mantra: "Educate, Agitate, and Organize." He reminded the audience that Babasaheb pursued higher education at some of the most prestigious universities across the globe, overcoming immense barriers. Despite having the choice to lead a comfortable life, Dr. Ambedkar chose the challenging path of struggle to fight for the rights of the marginalized and backward sections of society. Rajnath Singh emphasized that the government's current welfare schemes are designed to realize this very vision of Babasaheb by mainstreaming those who have historically been left behind.
Uttar Pradesh's Growth and the Success of Agra's Petha
Turning his attention to regional development, Rajnath Singh praised the rapid progress of Uttar Pradesh under the Double Engine government. He contrasted the current peaceful atmosphere with the state's past, recalling a time when Uttar Pradesh was plagued by the rule of mafias, poorly maintained and potholed roads, a persistent sense of insecurity, daily riots, and a climate of fear among common citizens. He also lauded local economic achievements, particularly praising Agra's famous sweet, Petha. He mentioned that under the "One District, One Product" scheme, Agra's Petha has received widespread global recognition, with people in foreign countries now enjoying its unique sweetness, which has boosted local employment and trade.
Honoring the Historical Heroism of the Khatik Community
Rajnath Singh paid rich tributes to the historical contributions and bravery of the Khatik community in India's struggle for survival and independence. He specifically brought up the dark events of 1946 during the "Direct Action Day" in Bengal, when Hindus were systematically targeted. He recalled how, under the leadership of Gopal Patha, many members of the Khatik community courageously took up positions on the frontlines to defend and protect Hindu families. Furthermore, he highlighted their critical role in the 1857 First War of Independence in Meerut, where members of the Khatik community fought British forces with outstanding valor. He noted that although the British administration subjected the community to extreme oppression and persecution in retaliation, they never wavered and sacrificed their all for the freedom of the nation.
