Heavy vehicles have been barred from entering Mirzapur city in Uttar Pradesh while the UPTET examination is underway, with the district's Superintendent of Police issuing the no entry order to spare candidates the trouble of getting stuck in traffic. The restriction will remain in force until further orders.
Why the restriction was needed
Mirzapur sees the heaviest movement of large vehicles among the district's traffic, and a significant number of these heavy vehicles pass straight through the city. Their movement frequently causes traffic jams on the roads, creating major inconvenience for commuters. With exam candidates at risk of getting delayed in such jams while heading to their centres, the SP ordered the no entry rule specifically to address this problem.
In force from 5 AM to 10 PM
The no entry restriction applies from 5 in the morning until 10 at night. No heavy vehicle will be allowed to enter the city during this window. Police personnel have been posted at multiple points to ensure the order is enforced strictly.
Vehicles stopped at four entry points
Vehicles coming from the Sonbhadra side are being stopped near the Barkachha highway overbridge. Heavy vehicles arriving from Varanasi are being held near Aghwar crossing, while large vehicles coming from Rewa are stopped at Samogra crossing to prevent them from entering the city. Heavy vehicles coming from the Prayagraj side are being stopped near Gaipura outpost. All these vehicles will be allowed to move ahead only after 10 PM, once traffic on the roads returns to normal.
Rule runs from July 2 to July 6, may be extended
The no entry arrangement has been put in place from July 2 to July 6. If it proves successful, it could be extended further. The UPTET examination is being conducted at various centres across Mirzapur district, with the largest concentration of centres located within the city itself. The entire arrangement has been made to ensure candidates are not delayed by getting caught in traffic jams on their way to the exam.
Milk tankers, petroleum vehicles and buses exempted
Milk vehicles, petroleum tankers and buses have been exempted from the no entry rule and will not be stopped. All vehicles linked to emergency services have also been kept outside its scope. The restriction specifically targets trucks carrying gitti (stone chips), sand and similar construction material into the city.
Traffic and civil police deployed, action promised against violators
Both traffic police and civil police personnel have been deployed to ensure strict compliance with the no entry order. The deployment is meant to ensure that action can be taken immediately against any vehicle that tries to break the rule and flee.
