Political friction in Uttar Pradesh intensified around the Rajya Sabha elections as Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief and Yogi government minister Om Prakash Rajbhar targeted Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. The criticism came right after the Samajwadi Party opted not to enter a third candidate into the contest, with Yadav instead proclaiming that his party is prioritizing all 403 legislative assembly seats. Rajbhar commented on the social platform X, remarking that dreaming is not a bad thing while also terming the withdrawal of a third bid a sensible decision.
Speculation Ends Over a Third Samajwadi Party Contestant
In the biennial elections covering 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party had already formalized nominations for its first two candidates. Following those filings, persistent political talk suggested that the party might field a third candidate to contest the remaining seats. Several party functionaries had dropped hints pointing toward an eleventh-hour surprise entry. All eyes remained on the final day of nominations to see if a third name would be officially announced and submitted before the deadline expired.
Akhilesh Yadav put an end to the mounting conjecture by clarifying the party stance on social media. Signaling a strategic pivot toward future state assembly targets rather than an immediate upper house tussle, Yadav stated that their attention is not fixed on three seats but on four hundred and three. With that brief announcement, the leadership dismissed all speculation about forcing a contest for a third seat, focusing rhetoric instead on statewide electoral objectives.
Rajbhar Responds to Yadav's 403-Seat Assembly Focus
Promptly reacting to the development, Om Prakash Rajbhar wrote on X, "Friend Akhilesh ji, it has all fizzled out! Even if only occasionally, you do manage to act sensibly, just like you did today. As for 403, I will only say that dreaming is not a bad thing." Through his remarks, Rajbhar framed the retreat as an inevitable admission of numbers while ridiculing the Samajwadi Party's broader ambition of capturing 403 assembly constituencies.
Rajbhar has consistently maintained an aggressive posture against Akhilesh Yadav throughout this election cycle. Earlier, when the Rajya Sabha discussions first gained momentum and Ramgopal Yadav was confirmed as a nominee, Rajbhar had publicly criticized the Samajwadi Party on social platforms, specifically questioning their PDA formula concerning the selection of the remaining candidates. The decision to skip a third nomination has now triggered another sharp exchange between the two leaders.
