The Bharatiya Janata Party has officially unveiled its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections across two key states. In a major political move, the party has fielded actor Koel Mallick, who previously switched over from the Trinamool Congress, from West Bengal, while nominating Dinesh Arya to represent Uttarakhand in the upper house of Parliament.
Strategic Choices in Bengal and Uttarakhand
The party central leadership finalized the two names keeping regional political dynamics and organizational representation in mind. By selecting Koel Mallick in West Bengal, the party has placed its faith in a prominent face who recently joined its ranks from the Trinamool Congress. In Uttarakhand, the nomination of Dinesh Arya serves to reward dedicated organizational work and consolidate regional backing ahead of the legislative voting process.
Election Schedule and Seat Dynamics
Voting for the West Bengal Rajya Sabha by-election is scheduled to take place on October 16. Ahead of the final candidate declaration, several local names had been under internal discussion, including Kuldip Maiti. The party leadership ultimately chose Mallick to contest the seat, setting the stage for the formal filing of nominations and the subsequent election in both legislative assemblies.
