A tragic road accident unfolded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, just ahead of the Diwali festival, claiming the life of an innocent man. The incident took place on Saturday night at around 8:00 PM in the Awas Vikas-3 area of Kalyanpur, where a speeding Mahindra Thar wreaked havoc on the street. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was being driven at an exceptionally high speed, giving the scooter rider zero opportunity to react or maneuver to safety. After mowing down the two-wheeler, the SUV lost complete control, shattered the boundary wall of a professor's residence, and plowed straight into the private garden.
Accused Driver Flees the Scene in Another Car
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the Thar was being driven by a woman, accompanied by another young woman and a man. When locals gathered at the spot and attempted to apprehend the female driver, the group managed to escape by fleeing the scene in a separate car that arrived shortly after. Police rushed to the location upon receiving information about the crash, secured the body, and initiated formal legal proceedings. Investigators are currently scanning through all available CCTV footage from the surrounding neighborhood to identify the exact occupants and track down the absconding suspects.
Victim Identified by Distraught Son
The victim killed in the horrific crash was identified as 55-year-old Santosh Singh Chauhan. Upon receiving the devastating news, his son Rahul Chauhan rushed to the spot and broke down in tears after identifying his father's body. A distraught Rahul shared that his father had left home at around 7:30 PM carrying his mother's saree to deliver somewhere. While departing, Santosh had assured his family that he would return home shortly, unaware that the brief outing would end in a fatal road disaster within minutes.
Vehicle Trace and Ongoing Police Investigation
Local law enforcement authorities have utilized the registration number plate of the mangled Thar to trace the registered owner of the vehicle. Police are actively investigating who was behind the wheel at the exact moment of the crash and who else was involved. This fatal incident in Kanpur has once again brought to light the perils of reckless and speeding vehicles on urban roads, cutting short a precious life and leaving a grieving family behind.
