A tragic incident of domestic violence unfolded in Bhali village, situated within the Kotla area of Nurpur sub-division in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, where a retired Border Security Force (BSF) personnel allegedly murdered his wife following an argument. The suspect, identified as Jagdish Chand, has been taken into police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the fatal assault.
Fatal Morning Altercation with an Iron Tool
The violent encounter took place on the morning of October 14. Around 6:00 AM on Wednesday, an intense quarrel erupted between Jagdish Chand and his wife, Usha Devi. As the dispute escalated, Jagdish Chand reportedly lost his temper, seized a heavy iron tool, and struck Usha Devi directly on the head. The impact of the blow proved instantly fatal, and she succumbed to severe head trauma on the spot.
Forensic Examination and Police Action
Following the crime, personnel from the Kotla police station arrived at the scene to initiate proceedings. A forensic team dispatched from Nurpur joined the local police to inspect the premises and preserve crucial physical evidence. Confirming the incident, Nurpur ASP Dharm Chand Verma stated that an investigation remains underway and the victim's body was transferred to a medical facility for a post-mortem examination. Based on a formal complaint and statements provided by the victim's brother, Uttam Chand, law enforcement authorities registered a murder case against the accused husband.
A Decade-Long Domestic Conflict
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the household had been marred by severe marital discord for a prolonged period. Jagdish Chand and Usha Devi had reportedly been embroiled in bitter family disputes for roughly 10 years. Usha Devi originally hailed from the Sihunta area located in Chamba district, where her maternal family resides.
Children Displaced by Ongoing Family Feud
The ongoing domestic turmoil had deeply fractured the household, forcing the couple's three children to live away from the family residence. Their elder daughter is married and settled elsewhere. Meanwhile, their son, a tenth-standard student, chose to reside with his elder married sister specifically to stay away from the relentless friction at home. Furthermore, the couple's younger daughter lives separately in Dharamshala, highlighting how years of sustained conflict culminated in a devastating end.
