In view of the severe weather warnings issued by meteorological departments, the state government has decided to bring a temporary halt to the revered Chardham Yatra.
Official Directives and Safety Protocols
Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swarup emphasized that the safety and security of devotees remain the absolute priority for the administration. Keeping this core objective in mind, an official directive was formally issued in this regard on September 26, 2026. This decision draws from inputs provided by the Chardham Yatra Management and Control Organization, taking strict note of the adverse weather forecasts released by the Uttarakhand State Emergency Operation Center.
Suspension Window for September 26 and 27
According to the official communication, the pilgrimage to all four shrines has been put on hold starting from the afternoon of September 26 through September 27. District magistrates across all districts within the Garhwal division have been instructed to ensure that pilgrims currently on their route are safely accommodated at secure locations. The administration has underlined that the execution of these orders must be strictly monitored and enforced to prevent any untoward incidents.
Resumption Subject to Weather Improvement
The administration has made it clear that normal operations and the movement of yatris will resume only after weather conditions improve and stabilize completely. Necessary administrative procedures and reviews will be initiated to restart the pilgrimage once the threat of heavy rainfall subsides. Until then, travelers and local authorities remain directed to stay put in designated safe zones.
