Travelers heading toward popular hill retreats and the revered Neem Karoli Ashram over the upcoming weekend must carefully review local road regulations before embarking on their journey. With heavy influx expected during the holiday period, narrow mountain roads frequently suffer severe bottlenecks that trap motorists for hours. To prevent gridlock and keep traffic moving smoothly, police and administrative authorities have instituted an elaborate mobility plan. The measures, effective on October 31 and November 1, cover Nainital, Kainchi Dham, Bhowali, and the key foothill transit hub of Haldwani to protect both local mobility and incoming travelers from crippling delays.
Strict Restrictions on Commercial Vehicles and Deployment of Shuttles
Following directives issued by Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC, strict surveillance will govern the approaches leading to religious shrines. Heavy commercial carriers traveling toward the shrine corridor will face complete operating bans from 3:00 am until 11:00 pm. Enforcement teams will halt such transport at peripheral district checkpoints. In addition, taxis, private two-wheelers, and commercial two-wheelers bearing yellow license plates are prohibited from entering the immediate temple perimeter. Motorists arriving in personal passenger cars will be directed into authorized parking grounds, where designated shuttle services will ferry worshippers directly to the pilgrimage center.
Diversion Routes for Foothill Gateways
Within the bustling foothill town of Haldwani, extensive vehicle diversions will operate from 9:00 am until 10:00 pm on both weekend dates. Hill-bound vehicles approaching via the Bareilly road corridor will be diverted from the Teenpani flyover through Gaulapar Road to reach the Nariman intersection near Kathgodam. Motorists driving up from the direction of Rudrapur must take the Pantnagar intersection (Dineshpur turn) onto the newly constructed National Highway-109, continuing through Lalkuan, Teenpani flyover, and Gaulapar Road toward Nariman intersection. Any non-local vehicles entering municipal limits will be turned at the sugarcane center toward Gaula Road. Meanwhile, traffic from Ramnagar and Bajpur must turn off at the Nainital intersection in Kaladhungi toward Mangoli to access the hills.
Operational Windows for Essential Commodities Transport
General heavy freight vehicles will not be permitted to operate on mountain highways between 3:00 am and 11:00 pm. Crucial supply logistics, including tankers and trucks transporting milk, domestic gas cylinders, motor fuels, fresh fruits, and vegetables, must observe transit bans between 2:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Freight trucks attempting to descend from higher altitudes toward Haldwani will be stopped at district boundaries during the 3:00 am to 11:00 pm restriction window. If any large vehicle breaches outer cordons, it will be parked either on the left shoulder before Number One Band or near the Amritpur turn under the jurisdiction of the Saldi police post.
Downhill Tourist Evacuation Paths and Transit Exceptions
As evening approaches and downhill traffic peaks, dedicated escape routes will open to alleviate bottlenecks around Kathgodam. After 3:00 pm, tourist passenger vehicles descending from Bhowali and surrounding lakeside destinations will be rerouted away from congested corridors via the Masjid intersection. These motorists will proceed through Number One Band, Russian Bypass II, Russian Bypass I, and eventually exit via Kaladhungi. Standard public transit, including scheduled state roadways buses and regular KMOU services connecting hill settlements, will remain exempt from these deviations and maintain their normal routes. Travelers are urged to consult the published traffic blueprint in advance and refrain from leaving vehicles along narrow mountain shoulders.
