On the eve of Teachers' Day, a tragic road accident in West Bengal's Purba Bardhaman district has left a home tutor dead. He was riding his motorcycle back home after finishing a tuition class in Sagadai Bazar when a jackal darted across the road and his bike rammed straight into it. CCTV footage of the entire incident has now come to light.
How the collision unfolded
According to villagers, 34 year old Amit Kumar Kole was heading home on his motorcycle from the direction of Sagadai Bazar on Friday night. Just before he reached the Narugram bus stop, a jackal suddenly appeared crossing the road and his speeding bike hit it head on. The impact was severe enough to throw Amit off the motorcycle onto the road, leaving him badly injured.
Rushed to hospital, declared dead by doctors
People nearby lost no time in alerting the Raina police station about the accident. A police team reached the spot quickly and had the seriously injured Amit taken to Burdwan Medical College Hospital for treatment. His injuries, however, proved fatal, and the doctors on duty at the hospital examined him and declared him dead. The accident had already shaken the local community, and the news from the hospital only deepened the grief.
Who was Amit Kumar Kole
Police sources and locals identified the deceased as Amit Kumar Kole, son of Jaydev Kole. He lived in Bhimpur village, which falls under the Narugram post office in the Raina-1 block of Purba Bardhaman district. Amit worked as a home tutor and taught several children in the area, which is why his death, coming right before Teachers' Day, hit the community especially hard. Local teachers and villagers paid tribute to him and expressed condolences to his family.
Kolkata teacher suspended over tilak controversy
Separately, a controversy emerged in Kolkata involving a woman teacher at a private missionary school who was accused of repeatedly wiping off a sandalwood tilak from a student's forehead. A video of the incident went viral on social media, and the matter soon escalated. Once it came to the notice of CM Shuvendu Adhikari, the administration swung into action and launched an investigation. The school management also took strict action, suspending the accused teacher.
