A sweeping administrative overhaul has hit the West Bengal police department as the state government transferred 23 police officers to new postings in a single administrative exercise. The state home department issued an official notification detailing the massive reshuffle, which includes several key changes within the Kolkata Police structure. This marks the second major bureaucratic reshuffle within a short span of time, following a similar promotion and transfer exercise involving 23 officers in mid-September, further tightening the administrative setup across the region.
Devendra Prakash Singh appointed North Bengal IG
According to the notification released by the home department, Additional Police Commissioner Devendra Prakash Singh has been appointed as the Inspector General of North Bengal. Meanwhile, Surya Pratap Yadav, who served as the Joint Commissioner of Traffic for Kolkata Police, has been moved to the state police as the DIG of the Intelligence Branch. Additionally, Paras Neelanjali, the Deputy Commissioner of the Enforcement Branch in Kolkata Police, has been assigned the charge of Deputy Commissioner in the Intelligence Department DD.
Top-level administrative responsibilities reassigned
Key administrative positions at the upper tiers of Kolkata Police have also seen direct changes. IPS Sudhir Kumar Neelakantam has taken over as the new Additional Police Commissioner of Kolkata Police. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as the IGP of the state police Special Task Force.
District postings and regional appointments
At the district level, Kaustuvdipta Acharya has been posted as the Additional SP of Jaigaon in Alipurduar, having previously served as the Additional SP in Darjeeling. Salima Lama has been assigned as the Additional SP of Headquarters in Alipurduar, while Purnima Sherpa has been appointed as the Additional SP of Kalimpong.
Furthermore, Abhishek Re, who was serving as the Additional SP of Malda Rural, has been shifted as the Additional SP of Birbhum. Manabendra Das takes charge as the Additional SP of Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar, and Kumla Barnabas has received an appointment as the Additional SP of Malda Rural.
