Law enforcement authorities across West Bengal have delivered a major blow to narcotics distribution rings, arresting 378 individuals and intercepting illicit substances worth 64 crore rupees within a span of seven days. The concerted enforcement drive was initiated to dismantle organized trafficking networks operating within the state and across regional boundaries.
Statewide Coordinated Raids Over Seven Days
The enforcement strategy involved simultaneous raids on predetermined logistics points, transit corridors, and distribution hubs throughout the state. Over the course of the seven-day operation, police contingents apprehended 378 suspects tied to various levels of the supply chain. Contraband worth an estimated 64 crore rupees was confiscated during these targeted actions, curtailing large consignments intended for retail distribution. Investigators are continuing interrogations to map out upstream suppliers and financial backers orchestrating the illicit trade.
Enforcement Briefing by Suvendu Adhikari
Details regarding the extensive week-long crackdown were presented by Suvendu Adhikari, highlighting the ongoing institutional push against drug cartels. The current momentum follows an earlier directive where a strict two-week timeline was handed down to police leadership to neutralize illicit liquor units and narcotics distribution dens statewide. The operational mandate instructs administrative and field teams to maintain sustained scrutiny and execute prompt legal proceedings against repeat offenders.
Targeted Actions in Transit Points and Border Areas
Vigilance has also been reinforced across key interstate and transit sectors. Recent operations in Galgalia resulted in the recovery of 507 grams of suspected brown sugar and 814 grams of amphetamine alongside illegal weapons. Local drives in Ramgarh led to the confiscation of 100 kilograms of java mahua and 40 litres of illicit liquor, complemented by targeted operations against restricted pharmaceutical drugs in Hilsa. On a parallel track, the Narcotics Control Bureau executed financial disruptions against organized syndicates by freezing 25 properties valued at over 20 crore rupees.
