A intense shootout took place between the police and criminals in the Chhata area of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh during a joint operation by local police, surveillance, and SWAT teams. A notorious criminal sustained a bullet injury during the exchange and was apprehended by law enforcement. However, his associate managed to flee from the scene, and police teams are currently conducting raids to track him down.
How the Robbery Unfolded
The incident dates back to November 2, 2026, near the KD Medical College bridge in the Chhata area. Two motorcycle-borne criminals pushed a pedestrian and forcefully snatched 2,13,740 rupees from him. This brazen daylight robbery created panic in the neighborhood, and a formal case was subsequently registered at the Chhata police station based on the victim's complaint.
Police Trap and Saturday Operation
Acting on a tip-off received on November 7, authorities learned that the same robbers were planning another major heist and would be passing near the Sanskriti University flyover on NH-19. Acting swiftly, the police cordoned off the area. As two suspects arrived on a motorcycle, officers attempted to intercept them, but the criminals immediately opened fire on the police party.
Retaliatory Fire and Arrest
In self-defense, police returned fire, resulting in a bullet injury to the leg of the primary suspect, identified as Rahul, a resident of Chhayas village in Faridabad, Haryana. Police successfully pinned him down at the spot. His accomplice, Shivkumar, managed to escape, and search operations are underway to capture him.
Recoveries Made by Police
Authorities seized 52,500 rupees in cash from the stolen amount, the Haryana-registered motorcycle used in the crime, a country-made pistol (.315 bore), and live cartridges from Rahul. Background checks revealed that Rahul is a habitual offender with 11 serious criminal cases registered against him across Mathura, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Bulandshahr, and Aligarh, including charges of theft, fraud, the Gangster Act, and the Arms Act. The injured accused is receiving medical treatment while the search for his accomplice continues.
