The continuous downpour caused massive waterlogging in the Railpar area of Asansol, submerging large parts of the locality underwater. In several pockets, the floodwaters surged to alarming depths of approximately 5 to 10 feet. The situation deteriorated so rapidly that numerous families were left with no alternative but to abandon their living quarters and seek refuge on upper floors and rooftops. Residents of multi-story buildings spent harrowing nights on higher levels, while others huddled on open terraces just to stay safe from the surging deluge.
Rescue Operations and Relief Measures
Promptly responding to the crisis, local administrative authorities, the Asansol Municipal Corporation, and civil defense rescue squads deployed teams to launch extensive evacuation operations. Stranded citizens trapped inside waterlogged homes are being safely ferried out using boats and specialized safety gear before being transferred to established relief camps. The extensive flooding has severely damaged household goods and valuables stored inside homes, leaving residents grappling with the daunting task of relocation. As water levels continued to rise, several distressed families packed up whatever they could and moved toward safer zones.
Distribution of Supplies and Public Resentment
Rescue personnel are continuously scouring submerged neighborhoods to evacuate vulnerable individuals. Concurrently, distribution channels have been activated to supply essential food packages and relief materials to the affected populace. This past Sunday, a sudden landslide struck the crucial state highway connecting Kalimpong city to Bindu in West Bengal. Fortunately, despite the dangerous collapse of earth and debris, no injuries or casualties were reported, averting a major disaster. The simultaneous pounding across plains and hills highlights a widespread weather emergency across the state.
