Political tensions have flared up significantly in West Bengal following a fresh incident of vandalism and assault at the Camac Street office of Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and Member of Parliament, Abhishek Banerjee, in Kolkata. Party leadership has strongly condemned the early morning breach, directly attributing the attack to armed perpetrators who allegedly barged into the premises, assaulted staff members, and damaged office property. In response to the growing fallout, the Kolkata Police registered three separate First Information Reports (FIRs) and detained six individuals to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.
Early Morning Violence at Camac Street Headquarters
Detailing the sequence of events, TMC leaders characterized the episode as an orchestrated and deliberate attack. According to statements issued by Abhishek Banerjee, a group of armed miscreants forced their way into the Camac Street party office around 4:30 AM. The intruders allegedly physically assaulted the staff on duty, forcibly seized their mobile phones to block immediate calls for help, and ransacked the interior fittings and equipment. Providing further context, TMC IT Cell head Upasana Chowdhury stated that the incident transpired closer to 3:30 AM. She confirmed that comprehensive CCTV footage recording the entire breach is in the party's possession and will be provided to law enforcement authorities to assist with the probe.
Allegations of Police Delay and Calls for Judicial Intervention
Following the occurrence, Abhishek Banerjee expressed deep dissatisfaction with the initial response of local law enforcement. Taking to social media platforms, he questioned the operational readiness of the Kolkata Police, pointing out that party workers and legal representatives sent multiple frantic phone calls and official emails requesting immediate police dispatch. Despite these urgent communications, police personnel reportedly took nearly two hours to arrive and initiate action. Banerjee insisted that beyond detaining the immediate perpetrators, investigators must uncover the broader conspiracy, identifying who engineered the operation and issued the commands behind the assault.
Highlighting what he called an existential threat to democratic protocols, Banerjee formally sought intervention from top constitutional figures and the judicial system. He appealed directly to the Governor of West Bengal, the Union Home Minister, and particularly the Calcutta High Court to step in and restore order. He emphasized that the judiciary must take serious note of the situation to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the constitutional and democratic rights of political organizations functioning in the state.

The TMC National General Secretary underscored that this incident represents the second violent targeting of his official premises within a single month. He recalled a similar break-in that occurred at his office in Amatala, where unknown assailants similarly vandalised property and looted materials. Framing these sequential attacks as more than routine law-and-order disruptions, Banerjee argued that such acts signal a blatant disregard for legal governance and administrative authority in the region.

In the wake of public outrage and official complaints, Kolkata Police confirmed the registration of three FIRs and the detention of six suspects currently undergoing interrogation. Law enforcement officials stated that investigators are scrutinizing CCTV logs and gathering witness statements to establish the full timeline. This development comes against the backdrop of heightened political friction, as West Bengal Police had only recently filed an FIR naming Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP Derek O'Brien, and several others.
