Throughout the summit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held multiple significant discussions with his international counterparts. He utilized the X social media platform to share snapshots of his informal meetings with the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran. The shared visuals captured interactions alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Furthermore, he met with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, noting that they engaged in a highly productive exchange. His interaction with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also drew considerable attention within diplomatic circles.
Marking Twenty-Five Years of the SCO
This landmark summit was convened to commemorate twenty-five years since the foundational establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The guiding theme designated for this year's gathering emphasized working together for enduring peace, development, and prosperity. The high-profile event brought together prominent world leaders, most notably Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Addressing the plenary session of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a resolute message concerning the global threat of terrorism. In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he asserted that there must be no double standards when confronting the issue of terror. He strongly advocated for dismantling the entire ecosystem supporting terrorism to secure regional stability and safety.
