A high-level governance review took place on Tuesday at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar, bringing together Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu to evaluate key administrative milestones. The discussion centered on advancing long-term public welfare, executing vital infrastructure works, and pursuing inclusive economic progress across the frontier state. Central to the briefing was the progress and stakeholder engagement surrounding the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
Evaluating the Siang Project and Grassroots Engagement
Chief Minister Khandu appraised the Governor regarding the pre-feasibility dynamics of the ambitious SUMP undertaking. Conceived as a major national initiative, the project carries strategic weight for hydro energy generation, regional flood regulation, freshwater security, and comprehensive regional progress. A substantial portion of the review highlighted the state administration's structured efforts to share the Pre-Feasibility Report with the public while collecting direct community responses.
Governor Parnaik commended the Chief Minister and his council of ministers for taking governance straight to grassroots stakeholders across the Siang river belt. He observed that open dialogues are indispensable for fostering trust and ensuring that citizens remain active, well-informed participants as state and national developmental agendas move forward. Parnaik noted that sustained dialogue enables communities to comprehend both advantages and hurdles, aligning regional aspirations with strategic goals.
Recognition for Urban Housing Milestones
The dialogue also touched upon notable achievements under centrally sponsored housing programmes. Governor Parnaik extended formal congratulations to the state government for securing two Best Performing State Awards under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) alongside PMAY-U 2.0. He observed that these accolades underscore systematic administrative dedication toward uplifting living standards in urban settlements and guaranteeing that formal housing benefits directly assist entitled families.
