A habitual offender identified as Gokar Bam has been arrested from Assam's Dhemaji for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi-Yomi district. The girl has been safely rescued.

A habitual offender from Assam has been taken into custody over the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a minor girl in Shi-Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh Police said on Saturday.

Arrest in Dhemaji

Officers identified the accused as Gokar Bam, who was picked up in Dhemaji, Assam, on September 4. His capture came out of a coordinated exercise carried out jointly by teams from the Arunachal Pradesh Police and their counterparts in Assam, who worked together to track him down across the state border.

Girl rescued

Radhe Obing, the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Mechukha, confirmed that Bam had been wanted in a case filed at Mechuka Police Station. Once he was apprehended, officers were able to safely recover the minor girl involved in the case. She has since been placed under proper care and protection.

A long criminal record

Early findings from the investigation point to Bam being a repeat offender with an extensive history of run-ins with the law. Records show he is named in several separate cases lodged at different police stations, spanning the Capital Complex, Aalo, Basar and Kamba areas.

Next steps

The DySP said Bam will appear before a court in Aalo, in West Siang district. Investigators say the case remains open, with more details expected to emerge as the probe continues.
