Organisational activities have gathered pace in Assam as the historic town of Nalbari readies itself for the 93rd edition of the renowned Nalbari Raas Mahotsav. Scheduled to run from November 24 through December 6, the annual 13-day cultural and religious extravaganza will once again transform the grounds of the historic Sri Sri Harimandir into a vibrant spiritual hub, drawing visitors and devotees from across the state and beyond.
Review of Arrangements and Inter-Committee Coordination
To assess progress and plan the operational logistics for the upcoming celebrations, an extensive coordination meeting took place at Sri Sri Harimandir. Assam Minister and local Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah presided over the session, which brought together convenors, co-convenors, and members representing multiple organising sub-committees tasked with managing the event.
During the deliberations, Baruah evaluated the preparations executed by each panel and issued operational directives to ensure seamless execution. Emphasising the need for seamless coordination among the various teams, he insisted that all infrastructural, logistical, and safety arrangements must reach completion well ahead of the opening date. In a statement shared on X, Baruah noted that the Raas Mahotsav stands as a treasured symbol of Nalbari's cultural identity and called for collective effort to ensure its grand success.
A Heritage Sustained Since 1933
The Nalbari Raas Mahotsav ranks among the largest, oldest, and most prominent socio-religious festivals in Assam. Its origins date back to 1933, when it was first celebrated at the historic Shri Shri Hari Mandir in Nalbari, maintaining an unbroken annual heritage for nearly a century.
Centred around the enactment and artistic celebration of the traditional Raas Leela depicting the life and divinity of Lord Krishna, the 13-day festival routinely attracts massive crowds. Organisers expect substantial footfall from varied regions of Assam as well as other states, prompting dedicated focus on crowd management, pilgrim facilities, and cultural programming throughout the extended fortnight of festivities.
