Monsoon has fully set in across Chhattisgarh, and with the constant rain, two wheeler riders are increasingly struggling with their bikes and scooters. A bike or scooty failing to start in the rain, stalling suddenly in the middle of a ride, or developing a technical engine fault has become a very common complaint these days. Vishwajeet Lahre, an experienced mechanic in Bilaspur, says that a little caution and timely maintenance can easily prevent these troubles.
According to Vishwajeet Lahre, as soon as the rainy season begins, owners should get a complete check up done on their bike or scooty. Getting servicing done on time means small faults get caught early, so the vehicle does not let riders down midway through a journey.
The spark plug can cause the biggest headache
During rain, moisture or water often reaches the spark plug, which stops the engine from getting enough spark and makes the vehicle hard to start. That is why the spark plug and plug cap need regular checking. If the spark plug is old or damaged, it should be replaced immediately without delay, since this one small part is often the biggest reason behind starting trouble.
A loose tank seal can cost you dearly
Sometimes a minor fault in the fuel tank or oil tank cap or sealing lets rainwater seep in. This spoils the quality of both the petrol and the engine oil, which directly affects how the engine performs. That is exactly why regular checks of the tank sealing and cap should not be skipped.
Cleaning the ignition system and battery terminals matters too
The ignition system where the key is inserted should get light greasing and cleaning from time to time. Doing this keeps moisture and rust away, so the key system keeps working properly for a long time. Along with this, the battery terminals should also be kept clean so the power supply is never disrupted.
Keep an equal eye on tyres, brakes and the chain
Roads turn quite slippery in the rain, and worn out tyres can end up causing an accident. That is why the brake shoe and disc brake should also be checked periodically. Along with this, the bike chain should be kept clean and lubricated regularly so it does not rust and the vehicle keeps performing well.
Take special care of parking and cleaning in the rain
Experts advise parking the bike or scooty under a shed or roof as far as possible. If the vehicle does get wet in the rain, it should be wiped down thoroughly with a dry cloth, and the necessary parts should be checked before starting it, so that moisture does not cause problems later.
Change engine oil every 2000 km and get checks every 15 days
Vishwajeet Lahre says the engine oil should be changed after the bike runs roughly 2000 kilometres. Besides this, the vehicle should be checked every 15 days during the monsoon season. If any part looks damaged, it should be replaced right away. He says regular maintenance helps a bike perform better through the entire monsoon season and considerably reduces the chances of a sudden breakdown.
