Buyer momentum in the Indian multi-utility and multi-seater vehicle space continues to shift across various price brackets, driven by practicality, lower operating costs, and long-distance travel requirements. The latest registration and delivery figures reveal that Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has managed to protect its leadership position at the pinnacle of the segment. While economical family transporters remain a stable volume driver, rugged SUVs and feature-rich alternatives from Mahindra and Toyota have also logged significant commercial gains.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Retains Top Spot
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga stood at the summit of the sales chart by dispatching 18,516 units. When compared against the 18,445 units delivered during the corresponding window of the previous year, the model demonstrated a marginal year-on-year growth of 0.4%. Retail prices for this MPV begin at an ex-showroom tag of ₹8.90 lakh and stretch up to ₹13.04 lakh for the highest configuration. Visually, the vehicle incorporates 15-inch alloy wheels, a chrome-winged front grille, and 3D LED taillights to preserve a balanced, contemporary profile.
Inside the cabin, the layout accommodates 7 passengers with dual-tone cabin trims and reclining seats across rows. Convenience equipment consists of cruise control, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment interface, steering-mounted paddle shifters, and automatic climate control. Passenger protection is managed through 6 airbags, Hill-Hold Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) supported by Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid petrol motor that develops 102 PS and 137 Nm of torque, linked to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol powertrain delivers between 20.3 and 20.51 km/l, while the factory CNG setup returns 26.11 km/kg.
Mahindra Scorpio Posts Massive Growth
Securing the second spot, Mahindra Scorpio registered an impressive total of 15,576 units. This marks an extensive 58.3% year-on-year surge from the 9,840 units recorded in the same period last year. The collective demand for both the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio-N underscores growing customer appetite for upright posture, durable architecture, and dependable road capability.
Toyota Innova and Mahindra XUV7XO Performance
In the upper MPV space, Toyota Innova occupied third position after concluding sales of 8,963 units. Even though volume contracted by 3.7% compared to the 9,304 units recorded earlier, the Innova Crysta and Hycross nameplates maintain steady footing courtesy of their reliable engines, refined travel experience, and strong residual worth in the pre-owned market.
Right behind in fourth place, Mahindra XUV7XO attained 8,541 unit deliveries. That represents a notable 72.3% yearly improvement against the older benchmark of 4,956 units. The sharp rise in interest is largely driven by its comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, high-end cabin aesthetics, and broad suite of modern tech appointments.
Steady Run for Bolero and Kia Carens
Holding fifth place, Mahindra Bolero sustained consistent throughput with 8,159 units sold, edging past last year's 8,109 units by 0.6%. The platform continues to enjoy widespread appeal in rural and semi-urban pockets due to rugged mechanicals, low service expenses, and an ability to navigate uneven surfaces reliably.
Kia Carens together with the Clavis claimed sixth rank with combined sales of 6,093 units, translating to a 10.7% decrease from the previous 6,822 units. Regardless of the slight moderation, the model remains an attractive proposition for family buyers seeking comfortable passenger room and contemporary digital connectivity.
Electric Entry, Fortuner Surge and Remaining Contenders
Mahindra's freshly introduced pure-electric SUV, the XEV 9S, made an impactful retail debut in seventh place by posting 4,508 units in its opening cycle. The response highlights robust early traction for its long driving range, futuristic styling, and rich equipment portfolio.
Eighth place went to Toyota Fortuner, which achieved 3,504 unit deliveries to record a 39.7% jump over the prior year's 2,508 units. Despite sitting at a substantial price point, its proven 4x4 hardware and commanding presence keep it high on buyer wishlists.
Maruti Suzuki XL6 finished in ninth position with 3,293 units, reflecting a 10.8% rise from the 2,973 units seen in the earlier timeframe. Handled by the brand's Nexa channel, it targets premium family usage with dedicated captain chairs and ventilated front seats. Closing the top ten, Toyota Rumion delivered 2,396 units, escalating by 3423.5% over the 68 units recorded previously, primarily driven by improved dealer allocation and economical operating parameters.
