Mercedes-Benz has expanded its luxury electric vehicle lineup in the Indian market with the introduction of the locally assembled GLC 400 4Matic. Available at an introductory price of Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the new luxury SUV is rolled out from the company's Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune. It now stands as the smallest pure electric SUV in the brand's domestic portfolio. Notably, local assembly and retail rollout in India took place within just six months of its global premiere, setting the fastest launch turnaround recorded by the brand. Customer handovers are scheduled to begin around Diwali.
Updated Exterior Dimensions and Expanded Cabin Space
The electric GLC features distinctive styling elements, including an illuminated front grille, advanced Digital Light headlamps, and star-shaped LED daytime running lights. Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,845 mm in length. Its wheelbase has been extended relative to the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) GLC counterpart, freeing up extra space for second-row occupants. In terms of utility, the vehicle provides a generous 570-litre rear boot alongside a dedicated 128-litre front trunk (frunk) underneath the bonnet.
Dashboard Featuring 39.1-Inch MBUX Hyperscreen
Inside the cabin, the primary focal point is the expansive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen spanning the dashboard. The luxury ambience is further enhanced by a panoramic glass roof accented with illuminated stars, a premium Burmester sound system featuring Dolby Atmos acoustic processing, and multi-colour ambient lighting. Convenience and comfort equipment include massaging front seats, wireless charging pads, and power-folding functionality for the rear seats.
Powertrain Output, Battery Specs, and Acceleration
Propulsion comes from a substantial 94 kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. The electrical setup generates approximately 489 to 490 bhp of power along with 800 Nm of peak torque. Thanks to this instantaneous performance, the luxury electric SUV sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, reaching an electronically governed top speed of 210 km/h.
Range Expectations, 800V Ultra-Fast Charging, and Driver Safety
On the European WLTP testing cycle, the SUV delivers a driving range between 711 km and 715 km per charge. The vehicle is engineered around an 800-volt electrical architecture capable of receiving up to 330 kW of DC fast-charging input. Plugging into an ultra-fast charger can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes, while a rapid 10-minute top-up can restore about 300 km of driving distance. For passenger protection and driver assistance, the SUV comes fitted with a Level-2 ADAS suite, an automated parking function, and multiple safety airbags.
