Workshops offering aftermarket CNG kit fitments across key satellite cities of the National Capital Region are witnessing a sudden surge in demand following tightened vehicular entry restrictions into Delhi. Vehicle conversion hubs in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram have reported an increase of up to 50 percent in customers looking to convert their private vehicles. The spike follows the enforcement of a ban effective November 1 that bars vehicles registered outside the capital adhering to BS-4, BS-3, or older emission standards from entering municipal boundaries. The order, aimed at curbing severe air pollution levels across the urban corridor, is slated to remain in force until January 31, 2027.
Regulatory Standards and Exemptions for Clean Fuels
Under the regulatory framework, passenger and transport vehicles registered outside Delhi are prohibited from crossing city borders unless they comply with BS-6 emission benchmarks. This sweeping restriction applies broadly across both petrol and diesel platforms running on BS-4 or earlier architectures. Crucially, the enforcement framework provides full exemptions to vehicles powered by CNG, pure battery electric drivetrains, and authorized emergency response services. For daily commuters across NCR towns who frequently travel to the capital, converting existing BS-3 and BS-4 cars has become an immediate, cost-efficient alternative to purchasing a brand-new BS-6 automobile.
Noida Centers Log Steep Rise in Conversion Orders
The operational impact has been swift at regional fitment workshops. Shakti Singh, who operates an authorized CNG fitment facility in Sector-122, Noida, stated that customer volume grew by over 50 percent within the first 15 days following the implementation of Delhi border checks. Singh pointed out that retrofitting a passenger vehicle with a compliant CNG system carries an entry pricing starting at approximately Rs 35,000. For middle-class households and compact car owners, this outlay represents a fraction of the cost associated with buying a new compliant replacement car while keeping routine access into Delhi fully intact.
Market Ripple Extends as Far as Karnal
The operational spillover of the vehicle restrictions reaches well beyond adjacent borders. In Karnal, Haryana, another CNG conversion operator reported that installation orders jumped between 25 and 30 percent in recent days. The operator observed a notable uptick in follow-up queries from past visitors who had previously checked pricing and have now returned to finalize installations. While seasonal winter spikes in kit installations are routine due to escalating regional smog concerns, service providers emphasize that the ongoing policy-driven rush has significantly outpaced ordinary seasonal patterns.
