A daylight attempt to abduct a minor schoolgirl heading for her examinations triggered panic and outrage in the Darbhanga district of Bihar. The incident took place near Kiratpur Chowk within the jurisdiction of Jamalpur police station, where two youth riding a motorcycle allegedly tried to force a tenth grade student onto their two-wheeler. When the student resisted and cried out for help, the assailants assaulted her on the road. Alert local shopkeepers and residents quickly intervened to rescue her, forcing the attackers to flee. Acting swiftly on the distress call, the police launched a chase and apprehended both accused within approximately five hours.
Stalked Along a Two-Kilometer Stretch
The victim was on her way to appear for her half-yearly examinations on Monday morning. According to details emerging from the investigation, the two youths had been trailing the girl on their motorcycle for nearly two kilometers along her commute. As she neared the Kiratpur market area, the attackers intercepted her path, pulled her dupatta, and attempted to drag her onto the motorcycle. Rather than submitting to intimidation, the minor raised an alarm and called out to nearby shopkeepers for immediate assistance.
Assault on Intervening Shopkeepers and Family Member
Hearing her desperate shouts, local traders and bystanders, including a shopkeeper named Bablu Kumar Yadav, rushed to shield the student from the assailants. Faced with public intervention, the aggressive youths allegedly engaged in physical scuffles, assaulting the shopkeepers and residents who stepped in to protect the girl. Allegations have also been made that the victim's mother was subjected to physical assault during the confrontation. Sensing that the crowd was rapidly swelling against them, the two perpetrators mounted their vehicle and escaped the scene.
Arrested Near the Kosi Embankment
Following reports of the public commotion, an emergency police team from Dial 112 arrived at the location. By the time the personnel reached, the culprits had already vanished into the surrounding routes. Law enforcement personnel promptly tracked their escape trail, conducting a coordinated search operation that culminated in the detention of both suspects near the Kosi embankment, roughly 10 kilometers away from the spot of the crime, in about five hours.
One Suspect Identified as 19-Year-Old Alongside a Juvenile
Based on a written complaint submitted by the student's mother, a formal first information report was lodged at the Jamalpur police station. The police identified the adult accused as 19-year-old Raju Kumar Sada. His accomplice was determined to be a minor.
