A local court in Bagaha, Bihar, has convicted a man named Subhash Yadav for the brutal murder of his wife Reena Devi and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Recognizing the plight of the couple's two minor children who have been left without parental support following the tragedy, the court also issued directives to the Bihar government to ensure monthly financial assistance and long term rehabilitation support for their upbringing.
Dispute Over Motorcycle and Buffalo Led to Gruesome Crime
The horrifying incident took place in Baira Bazar Tola Musahari, situated within the jurisdiction of the Dhanha police station in Bagaha. According to court records, Subhash Yadav, son of Bunilal Yadav, engaged in a heated quarrel with his wife Reena Devi over a domestic disagreement involving a motorcycle and a buffalo. The altercation escalated fatally when Subhash murdered Reena Devi on July 30, 2020, the date on which an initial police complaint was registered.
Following the killing, the convict attempted to destroy all physical evidence and burn the body to evade law enforcement. In a gruesome attempt to conceal the crime, he chopped the corpse into three distinct pieces, stuffed the remains into separate sacks, and disposed of them in isolated locations. The identity of the victim was later confirmed after investigators discovered a small trunk key around her neck, which led authorities to confirm that the deceased was indeed Reena Devi.
Court Sentences Convict Under Multiple Sections of IPC
The trial concluded in the court of Bagaha Additional District Judge-4 Manavendra Mishra, where Subhash Yadav was found guilty under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. Under Section 302 of the IPC for murder, the judge sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,00,000. In the event of non-payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment. Furthermore, the court convicted him under Section 201 of the IPC for causing the disappearance of evidence, handing down a seven year prison sentence alongside an additional fine of Rs 25,000.
The successful prosecution relied heavily on a combination of technical data, scientific evidence, and consistent witness testimony assembled by investigative officers. Given the grave and horrific nature of the offense, the case was tried through a fast track speedy trial mechanism. The proceedings were monitored directly by the Bagaha Superintendent of Police, ensuring that the investigation and chargesheet filing progressed without administrative delays.
State Government Directed to Support Minor Children
Beyond imposing criminal penalties on the offender, Additional District Judge-4 Manavendra Mishra addressed the social impact of the tragedy on the family. With the mother deceased and the father serving a life sentence in prison, the court expressed deep concern for the future and survival of the couple's two minor children, who were left entirely helpless.
To safeguard their future, the court directed the Bihar government to provide financial relief of Rs 4,000 per month to each of the two minor children under the state's Parvarish Yojana welfare initiative. Additionally, the judge instructed authorities to enroll both children under the DLC Rehabilitation Scheme, ensuring that they receive essential state support, shelter, and financial backing throughout their upbringing.
