The 4R Guidelines for Smart Urea Application
Before applying urea or any other synthetic nutrient to their fields, farmers should strictly follow the 4R framework. Agriculture expert Rajesh Kumar Khobragade highlighted that this methodology rests on four foundational pillars: determining the right quantity, choosing the right time, applying through the right method, and selecting the right source. When farmers synchronize these four factors, nutrient leaching and volatilization are minimized. Consequently, plants absorb nutrients more effectively through their root systems, spurring vigorous growth and leading to a rapid rise in overall farm productivity.
Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Basal Dose in Paddy
In paddy cultivation, the timing and composition of the initial basal dose play a decisive role in early plant establishment. As outlined by Rajesh Kumar Khobragade, the basal dose must be applied either during the field puddling stage or at the exact time of transplanting paddy saplings. For nitrogen supply during this initial phase, farmers should utilize 20:20:13 fertilizer alongside DAP. Additionally, the application of Potash is essential to bolster root strength and improve disease resistance. Delivering a balanced nutrient mix right at planting provides young saplings with the foundation required for strong early growth.
Split Application Schedule of Urea Per Acre
Explaining the systematic schedule for urea application, the agricultural expert advised against applying the total required quantity in a single instance. If a one-acre plot requires a total of one bag of urea, the application should be split into distinct phases. The initial dose should consist of half a bag of urea applied during planting. The second dose, comprising 25 percent of the total requirement (half of the remaining half bag), should be administered 25 to 30 days after the first application. The remaining portion of urea should then be applied after an additional interval based on crop growth stages.
