The Mohania joint checkpost in Bihar's Kaimur district is back in the news over uniformed personnel allegedly running an illegal collection racket. In a joint raid, police caught four personnel red-handed taking money from vehicle drivers. Three of them belong to the Special Auxiliary Police, known as SAP, while the fourth is a home guard jawan. The cash and mobile phones recovered from them have laid bare the scale of the operation.
83,300 rupees in cash and four mobile phones seized
Acting on instructions from Kaimur SP Shikhar Chaudhary, a joint team of the Traffic DSP and the Mohania police station raided the checkpost late last night. The team found personnel stationed there stopping passing vehicles and collecting money from drivers. All four were caught on the spot, and a search of their belongings turned up 83,300 rupees in cash and four mobile phones. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
Who are the arrested men
Of the four arrested, three are SAP jawans identified as Gangasagar Singh, Bachchu Prasad and Maniram Sharma. The fourth is Sunil Kumar Gupta, described as a home guard jawan. All four were taken into custody on the spot for further proceedings.
Second major raid in a month, 15 arrested so far
This is not an isolated incident. It marks the second major crackdown at this very checkpost within a single month. An earlier raid at the same spot had led to the arrest of nine people, including four SAP jawans and five private assistants. Counting both raids together, a total of 15 accused have now been arrested at this checkpost within a month. The repeated recovery of extortion money from the same location suggests this was not a one-off lapse but a racket that had been running for some time.
Officers on duty round the clock, yet no one noticed
What has raised the most eyebrows is that despite officers being deputed at the checkpost across all three shifts, 24 hours a day, the officer in charge of inspections, ADTO Alok Kumar, had no idea the illegal collection was going on. Even with departmental officials posted there, the alleged extortion at the checkpost continued unchecked. Such repeated incidents have raised serious questions about the monitoring system and the overall administrative functioning at the post.
DSP says questioning underway
Mohania DSP Gopal Krishna told the media that four people, including three SAP jawans and one home guard jawan, were arrested at the Mohania checkpost along with 83,300 rupees in cash. He said questioning in the matter is currently underway.
