A major road accident has been reported from Bihar's Bhagalpur district near Navgachhia, where an out of control heavy dumper truck overturned onto a cluster of roadside huts within the limits of Bhavanipur police station, along NH-31. The crash left more than 12 people seriously injured and triggered panic and screams across the settlement.
Locals and police join the rescue effort
Within moments of the truck toppling over, nearby residents and passersby rushed in to pull the injured out from under the debris. All the injured were rushed to the nearest Community Health Centre, where a team of doctors is treating them. Residents fear that more people could still be trapped beneath the truck, though authorities have not yet issued any official confirmation on that count.
Both my children are still trapped, says injured woman
One of the injured women said she was cooking inside her home early in the morning when the speeding dumper suddenly toppled onto her house. She said her two children, aged 3 and 5, remain trapped under the wreckage of the truck.
Mamta Kumari recounts how the truck lost control
Mamta Kumari, another injured victim undergoing treatment at the hospital, described how the accident unfolded. She said a speeding truck was travelling from Khagaria towards Navgachhia early in the morning when its driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, sending it crashing onto two huts built alongside the road. Everyone from both households was inside at the time. The moment the truck came down, both huts were completely flattened. While several people managed to run to safety, many others got caught beneath the collapsing structures.
Crane called in to lift truck off the debris
The accident triggered brief chaos on NH-31 before villagers alerted the Bhavanipur police station. Police personnel reached the spot soon after and, along with local residents, joined the relief and rescue operations. A crane is being brought in to clear the debris and lift the massive truck off the site. In some relief, no official report of any death in the accident has emerged so far, and police are investigating the case.
