Continuous heavy rainfall in the upper hilly regions has triggered a surge in the water level of the Sharda River, compounding hardships for residents living across the Tarai region of Lakhimpur. With floodwaters inundating pathways in multiple locations, commuters and villagers are forced to travel by risking their lives. A minor lapse in caution could easily lead to a serious mishap. Near Beche Purwa village within the Gola tehsil region, the swelling waters of the river have reached all around the settlement.
The lack of a proper culvert on a critical section of the approach road leading to the village has left locals grappling with immense daily inconvenience. More than two feet of water currently stagnates over the pathway, compelling residents to wade right through the submerged route.
Local Representatives Have Been Informed Multiple Times
This predicament grows significantly worse during the monsoon and rainy months. The swift flow of water across the track makes even walking across a hazardous endeavor. Children, senior citizens, and women, in particular, face extreme difficulty while commuting. Although the issue regarding the construction of a culvert has been raised repeatedly with everyone from the area legislator to the village head, no permanent resolution has been implemented thus far. Villagers are urgently demanding that a culvert be built on this route without delay to spare them from navigating through deep water during the monsoons.
Sharing his plight, Beche Purwa village resident Banwari Lal stated that they have been enduring these acute hardships for the past roughly two years. Whenever the Sharda River swells, people are forced to wade through two to three feet of water just to reach the village, creating a constant risk of accidents. Despite numerous appeals for the construction of a culvert, the problem remains unresolved.
