In a major crackdown on administrative corruption in Bihar, a special team from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau caught Rosera Land Reforms Deputy Collector (DCLR) Kanchan Kumari Jha red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh in Samastipur district. Following the prompt arrest, the vigilance department carried out a search at the officer's official residence, leading to the recovery of an additional Rs 13.82 lakh in cash. The total cash seizure from the trap operation and residential raid has reached Rs 15.82 lakh, sending shockwaves across the state's administrative setup.
Bribe Demanded for Settling Land Dispute
According to official details, the bribery case stems from a land dispute matter pending in the Rosera subdivision. The officer had allegedly demanded a bribe to resolve the dispute in favor of the concerned party. Upon receiving a formal complaint regarding the illegal demand, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau conducted a preliminary verification. Once the complaint was verified, the bureau laid out a precise trap. As soon as the bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh was handed over, the raid team moved in quickly and apprehended DCLR Kanchan Kumari Jha on the spot.
Domestic Servant Arrested for Role as Middleman
Along with the senior officer, vigilance officials also arrested her domestic servant during the operation. Investigators revealed that the servant allegedly acted as a broker and intermediary, facilitating bribe transactions on behalf of the officer. During the subsequent search of the official quarters, officers also recovered a brand-new washing machine valued at approximately Rs 37,000 belonging to the duo. Maintaining her innocence after the arrest, DCLR Kanchan Kumari Jha claimed that she was being framed in a deliberate conspiracy.
Vigilance Raid Team Formed Under DSP Narendra Kumar
The raid was planned and executed following a formal request by Investigating Officer Police Inspector Diwakar Kumar Dinkar. Based on this request, a special raiding unit was formed under the leadership of Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narendra Kumar. The team meticulously laid the trap to ensure both suspects were caught red-handed with the bribe money. Following questioning, both arrested individuals are set to be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur for further legal proceedings.
