The high-profile murder of Mahant Devanand Maharaj at the eleven-hundred-year-old Chandresal Math in Kota has taken a definitive legal turn as police submitted a chargesheet against the accused. Investigators uncovered that a bitter battle for supremacy and control over vast real estate formed the core motivation behind the violent conspiracy. Kota Police finalized their probe and formally presented the judicial challan before the court against seven named adult suspects, including the mastermind lawyer and a contract killer, alongside one minor in conflict with the law.
The Battle For Land And Wealth
Police inquiries revealed that the entire criminal plot revolved around seizing approximately seven hundred and fifty bighas of valuable land and nearly four crore thirty-three lakh rupees held in bank accounts tied to the religious institution. The primary mastermind behind the assassination was identified as advocate Santosh Kumar Rai, who wanted absolute control over the math properties and orchestrated the removal of Mahant Devanand Maharaj. To execute this sinister plan, the conspirators hired criminals by offering a meager contract killing sum of one lakh rupees.
Investigators noted that to deflect suspicion away from himself, the chief conspirator Santosh Rai admitted himself into a Jaipur hospital under the pretext of a leg surgery right before the incident, creating a calculated alibi to show he was away from Kota. On the night of June 5, assailants infiltrated the premises and launched a brutal attack with sharp weapons while the Mahant was fast asleep. Postmortem findings revealed around twenty-six severe wounds on the victim's body, with the majority concentrated on his chest and back.

The math treasurer Brijmohan Gurjar lodged an initial complaint against unknown attackers at the Borkheda police station, prompting authorities to register a murder case immediately. The injured Mahant was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Utilizing technical evidence and cyber cell assistance, Kota Police untangled the complex mystery within days and made a series of rapid breakthroughs.
By June 11, a joint team of the Special Investigation Team and local police fully cracked the blind murder case and established how the gruesome plot was executed. Borkheda police wrapped up their formal probe and filed the chargesheet in court.
