In a milestone development for the state's energy sector, Rajasthan has officially become the first state in India to formalize a 'Framework for Action-Advance Clean Energy, Driven Sustainable Development' agreement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a group comprising 128 countries. This collaboration reinforces Rajasthan's position as a global leader in the renewable energy domain. The signing ceremony took place at the CMO on Wednesday, held in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, with Energy Secretary Aarti Dogra and ISA Director General Ashish Khanna signing the framework.
Strategic Energy Transition
The agreement is designed to create a comprehensive Energy Transition Plan for Rajasthan, specifically addressing the energy requirements for the period between 2030 and 2035. The roadmap focuses on expanding renewable energy resources while simultaneously strengthening the existing transmission and distribution infrastructure. Key pillars of this framework include grid modernization, energy storage expansion, and improvements in overall energy efficiency. Furthermore, the initiative will address demand management, the identification of bankable energy projects, energy modeling, institutional capacity building, and necessary policy reforms.
Leveraging AI for Grid Efficiency
A major focus of this project involves AI-enabled digitization. A pilot project based on 'digital twin' technology will be launched specifically under the Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam. This technology will allow for the precise assessment of electricity demand, enabling more efficient network planning. The goal is to ensure that consumers receive highly reliable and superior quality power through renewable energy integration. Moreover, this partnership will provide engineers and officials in the state with access to global-standard training opportunities.
Global Solar Leadership
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is spearheading global efforts to combat climate change. The International Solar Alliance itself is a result of the Prime Minister’s vision, which has transformed solar energy into a mass global movement. The Chief Minister stated that this partnership is a significant step toward securing clean and sustainable energy for the future, helping the state transition away from traditional power sources toward renewable alternatives. This comprehensive planning will resolve supply issues and ensure that consumers receive uninterrupted, high-quality electricity.
Rajasthan's Renewable Ambitions
Highlighting the state's potential, the Chief Minister noted that Rajasthan's favorable geographical conditions make it a frontrunner in the green energy transition. Under its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, the state has set an ambitious target to develop 125 GW of clean energy capacity. Significant efforts are underway in battery energy storage, and supportive policies have been implemented to integrate solar power. Currently, through the PM Kusum Yojana, the state is providing daytime electricity to farmers across 26 districts using over 4 GW of solar capacity.
Future Outlook with Advanced Tech
Minister of State for Energy Hiralal Nagar stated that the state government is prioritizing the strengthening of foundational energy infrastructure. Through this Framework for Action with the ISA, the government plans to utilize artificial intelligence to expand and improve power services. ISA Director General Ashish Khanna praised the state’s initiatives, noting that Rajasthan is the first region to sign such a framework with the ISA. He attributed this success to the favorable policies and planning of the Rajasthan government, which has helped the state secure the second position in India in the solar energy sector, while India has also achieved the second position globally.
