Suman Devi, a resident of Kadamahiya village located under the Bagaha 02 block in West Champaran district, has achieved a remarkable feat in self-employment that few could have anticipated. Nearly two years ago, Suman launched a natural soap production unit straight from her home, which has now turned into a preferred choice for hundreds of customers. With consumer demand surging significantly over time, the scale of production has also risen proportionately. The situation has reached a point where the supply is falling short of the incoming market orders.
Starting the venture after proper training
Detailing the journey, Suman shares that she initiated this soap-making enterprise about two years ago. To prepare herself, she first underwent formal training under the Namami Gange institution. Armed with that knowledge, she commenced manufacturing operations directly from her residence. Suman asserts that the soap she formulates functions as a pure beauty bar crafted entirely without any chemical additives.
Expanding into diverse natural varieties
In the initial phase, she focused on formulating soaps infused with goat milk, neem, charcoal, and glycerin, complemented by aesthetic packaging and professional branding. Because the products were chemical-free and priced affordably at just forty rupees, buyers readily adopted them and provided glowing reviews. Encouraged by the reception, Suman expanded her product lineup by introducing variants crafted from natural ingredients like turmeric, coffee, and aloe vera.
Low investment yields steady profits
At present, Suman generates an average monthly income of thirty thousand rupees purely from her soap enterprise. She points out that the ratio of production cost to revenue is quite minimal, which allows for a handsome profit margin. Furthermore, she encourages other women striving for self-reliance and entrepreneurship to consider soap manufacturing as a lucrative path. However, she emphasizes that obtaining proper training and conducting laboratory tests are mandatory prerequisites for success in this field.
