Meera Raghuvansh, a transgender woman from Ambikapur in the Surguja division of Chhattisgarh, has scripted history by clearing the UGC-NET examination and qualifying directly for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Having spent years preparing for the competitive examination, Meera had previously backed out twice after filling the application forms, but her first actual appearance at the test center yielded a prestigious JRF selection.
Overcoming Years of Exam Fear and Building Self-Confidence
Meera Raghuvansh spent nearly seven years preparing dedicatedly for the UGC-NET examination. Throughout this extended preparation phase, she filled out the examination application form on two prior occasions. However, on both instances, overwhelming fear and a lack of self-confidence prevented her from actually stepping into the examination hall to sit for the test.
The turning point in her journey arrived when her senior peers stepped in to offer guidance and encouragement. They advised her that appearing for the exam was essential regardless of the outcome, as the experience itself would prove invaluable for future attempts. This sound advice helped bolster her morale, prompting her to conquer her hesitation. Taking their words to heart, she appeared for the exam for the first time and secured JRF qualification directly.
Navigating a Complex Three-Part Exam and Academic Background
Reflecting on the nature of the examination, Meera highlighted that the test papers were demanding and divided into three comprehensive sections. The first section consisted of a general paper common to all candidates. The second section focused on queries related to dance, drama, and theater arts, while the third section was specifically tailored for students specializing in dance. Although all three papers presented a high level of difficulty, her systematic study regimen enabled her to navigate the test smoothly.
Meera completed her primary and middle school education in Ambikapur before moving to the Multiple Higher Secondary School in Ambikapur for her classes 9 through 12. Pursuing her passion for the arts, she later relocated to Khairagarh to enroll in higher studies. She completed both her Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Performing Arts, with a specialized focus on the classical Odissi dance form.
Balancing Daily Work with Late-Night Study Routines
Securing this national distinction required rigorous daily discipline from Meera. After completing her daily job responsibilities, she would return home and dedicate her late-night hours to studying. Despite a demanding schedule, she consistently studied until 12 AM or 1 AM, ensuring she devoted three to four hours daily to structured revision. Her perseverance, patience, and sustained effort eventually culminated in this breakthrough success.
Attributing her achievement to her spiritual beliefs and support network, Meera offered her gratitude to Maa Mahamaya and her deity Thakur Ji. She also dedicated her success to the memory of her late parents, her maternal uncle, her mentors, seniors, juniors, and members of her community. She extended explicit gratitude to her teachers, including Surendra Kumar, Sushant Das, and Devendra Behera, whose continuous guidance proved pivotal.
