A violent confrontation erupted in Sikri village, situated within the Faizganj Behta police station region of Bisauli tehsil in Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh, after an unauthorized attempt to install a statue on government land triggered widespread unrest. Tensions escalated rapidly when local residents tried to build a brick platform in order to erect a statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar without obtaining prior administrative permission. Upon receiving news of the unapproved construction, a joint team of police and local administrative officials arrived at the scene to halt the work. However, the gathered crowd reacted with intense anger to the intervention and initiated a hostile protest against the law enforcement personnel.
Stone Pelting Damages Police Vehicles and Injures Personnel
As the agitation intensified, the atmosphere in Sikri village turned extremely tense. The unrest escalated into direct violence when members of the mob began pelting stones at the administrative officers and police force. The sudden and intense stone pelting resulted in heavy damage to several government and police vehicles parked nearby, shattering their windows. Furthermore, multiple police personnel sustained injuries after being struck by flying bricks and stones during the chaotic attack. To regain control of the volatile situation and stop further violence, the police were forced to take strict physical countermeasures.
Law enforcement officers executed a lathi charge to push back the aggressive crowd and restore order in the locality. The lathi charge dispersed the rioters, bringing the immediate conflict under control. Taking prompt enforcement action, the police detained more than seven individuals from the spot for their alleged involvement in the rioting and attack on public servants. Meanwhile, to ensure long term security and prevent fresh flare-ups, authorities safely removed the disputed Ambedkar statue from the site and transferred it to the Bisauli police station.
Heavy Security and PAC Deployment Under Top Officials
Following reports of the violent clash, senior district officials immediately took charge of the situation. Given the sensitive nature of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma and District Magistrate Avinash Rai personally rushed to Sikri village accompanied by substantial police reinforcements. Both high-ranking officials conducted an on-site assessment to evaluate the security setup and ensure stability. Heavy police forces alongside units of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been stationed across the village to maintain peace and deter any potential disruption.
Security forces including police and PAC personnel are maintaining continuous vigil and conducting round-the-clock patrols throughout Sikri village. Senior administrative officials confirmed that the overall atmosphere is now completely under control. Authorities issued a firm warning stating that anyone taking the law into their own hands will face strict legal consequences. Police units are currently working to identify and track down other rioters involved in the stone pelting to ensure comprehensive legal action is taken against all perpetrators.
