The obsession with creating social media reels and gaining online fame can land families in serious legal trouble, as demonstrated by a recent incident in Kerala. Authorities have cracked down on a 16-year-old minor who was caught driving cars and motorcycles through congested public roads without a valid driver's license. The teenager's primary activity involved recording videos of himself behind the wheel and publishing them online as reels.
How the Police Tracked Down the Vehicles
This incident unfolded in the Adoor town located within Kerala's Pathanamthitta district. According to local law enforcement, the 16-year-old had been operating cars and motorcycles across the Adoor and Kodumon areas for quite some time, despite being well below the legal driving age. He routinely drove through busy urban corridors in Adoor while filming his driving exploits to upload as social media content. Once authorities caught wind of these online posts, they initiated an inquiry and intensified vehicle inspections throughout Adoor and neighboring localities.
The Tuesday Operation and Seizures
During a routine vehicle check conducted on Tuesday in the Pathikkode-Ezhamkulam area, police intercepted a car that was actively being tracked in connection with the probe. However, at the time of the stop, the automobile was being driven by another young man who also lacked a valid driver's license. Shortly after this vehicle was halted, the 16-year-old arrived at the scene riding a motorcycle. Law enforcement immediately detained both individuals and confiscated the motorcycle as part of the ongoing investigation.
Why the Mother and Registered Owner Were Booked
Authorities registered a formal FIR against the teenager's mother, 52-year-old Razina Noushad, for allowing her underage son to operate motor vehicles without a license. Under existing legal frameworks, permitting a minor to drive can invite severe legal consequences for parents or vehicle owners, holding responsible adults accountable alongside the underage driver. Police initiated this step based on these statutory guidelines, though an official FIR simply marks the start of formal proceedings rather than a finalized determination of guilt.
Additionally, the seized motorcycle was officially registered in the name of 65-year-old Raveendran, a resident of Pathirikkal in the Kollam district, prompting authorities to take action against him as well. Raveendran informed investigating officers that he had actually sold the motorcycle a few months prior to the incident. Consequently, police are currently investigating who possessed the vehicle at the time and how the minor managed to gain access to it.
