A medicine trader living at Ratan Orbit Apartment in Kanpur's Kalyanpur area was brutally murdered inside his own flat, his throat slit late on Saturday night. Vineet Manocha was completely alone in the house at the time, since his son had gone out with his wife to attend a party. When the son returned home around 4:30 am on Sunday, he was horrified to find his father's body and immediately alerted the police. A team reached the spot soon after and launched an investigation into the killing.
Body discovered the moment the family returned from the party
According to police, Vineet Manocha lived with his son Subrat Manocha in flat number C-104 of Ratan Orbit Apartment. On the night of the incident, Subrat left home with his wife around 9:40 pm to attend a function. The apartment's cameras captured the couple stepping out at around 9:38 pm. At that point, Vineet was left entirely alone inside the flat, a window the attackers appear to have exploited.
Two strangers arrived within eight minutes
Investigators found that barely eight minutes after the son and daughter-in-law left, two unidentified men entered the apartment complex at 9:46 pm and walked straight toward Vineet's flat. What has puzzled police is that the pair had no trouble getting inside, deepening suspicion that they already had prior knowledge of the flat or its access. The two suspects then stayed inside, waiting for Vineet to come back. He returned to the flat at around 10:58 pm, and roughly half an hour later, at 11:28 pm, the two men were again caught on camera walking out.
Suspicion falls on the servant
When police scrutinised the CCTV footage closely, one of the two faces turned out to be familiar, a man who worked as a servant at Vineet's home. The victim's son also confirmed recognising the same person in the footage. In their initial questioning, police suspect the servant harboured resentment against his employer. It is said that Vineet was not satisfied with his work and would often scold him. Police believe this old grudge could be a possible motive behind the murder, though the investigation has not yet reached any final conclusion, and officers are examining every angle carefully.
Search on for the second suspect
Alongside the servant, another man is visible in the footage whose identity remains unknown so far. Police suspect this second individual may be equally involved in planning the murder. Multiple police teams are raiding possible hideouts in an effort to track down and arrest both men. A forensic team has already collected evidence from the crime scene, and investigators are now examining the weapon used in the attack as well as checking whether any valuables are missing from the flat, which could clarify whether the motive was purely personal enmity or also involved an intent to steal.
CCTV footage remains the key thread in the probe
Throughout the case, footage from the apartment's security cameras has proven to be the most crucial lead available to police. It is this footage that has allowed investigators to piece together the suspects entering the flat, Vineet's return, and the pair exiting roughly an hour and a half later. Police are now working to connect the CCTV trail with forensic evidence to build a complete picture of the crime. They are also closely examining whether the servant's alleged grievance was the sole reason behind the attack or whether another, hidden motive was also at play. Until both suspects are caught, police are avoiding any final word on the true motive for the killing.
