Cyber criminals in the national capital defrauded a resident of ₹20.72 lakh by promising massive returns on stock market investments. Following a detailed investigation, the cyber police team of Delhi's North-West district busted the syndicate and arrested three individuals involved in the operation. Among those taken into custody is a deputy manager working at a private bank, whose insider assistance allegedly facilitated the illegal financial transactions.
How the Cyber Fraud Syndicate Lured the Victim
The victim was initially targeted through a series of phone calls where fraudsters established trust and painted an attractive picture of stock market trading. Claiming that small investments could yield extraordinary profits within a short period, the scammers convinced the individual to transfer money in multiple installments. Believing the promises to be genuine, the victim continued sending funds until the entire account balance was drained. When the promised returns failed to materialize and the fraudsters severed communication, the victim realized the deception and filed an official complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police.
Financial Trail Leads to Jaipur and Exposes Insider Collusion
Unraveling the movement of stolen funds posed a major challenge for investigators. The North West Special Staff team began piecing together technical evidence and analyzing complex banking transaction records. This financial tracking eventually pointed toward Jaipur in Rajasthan, where parts of the illicit money trail ended. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Akanksha Yadav, the investigation clearly outlined the specific roles played by each member of the network. One suspect had opened and provided a bank account specifically to receive the defrauded money. A second suspect managed cash withdrawals using self-cheques and handled further fund transfers across different accounts.
Bank Official's 2 Percent Commission and Recoveries
The most alarming revelation came when investigators identified the active participation of a private bank deputy manager. The bank official allegedly provided essential banking services to the cyber criminal syndicate in exchange for a 2 percent commission on the processed funds. Police officers seized four mobile phones used during the commission of the crime from the possession of the three arrested suspects. Authorities are currently probing the broader digital footprint, examining connected bank accounts, and searching for other associates who may be linked to the criminal network. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have issued a advisory urging the public to remain cautious against high-return stock market offers and to immediately report any suspicious cyber activity on the official helpline number 1930.
