Located about 16 kilometers from Ajmer, the holy town of Pushkar is preparing to draw global tourists to its international fair with an array of novel and distinctive attractions. Renowned worldwide for its deep religious devotion, vibrant Rajasthani folk culture, livestock trading, and colorful festivities, the upcoming edition aims to celebrate the year 2026 distinctively as International Women Farmers Day. For the first time in the history of the fair, a grand parade featuring cattle-rearing women riding bullock carts is being planned, which is expected to emerge as the most striking highlight of the event.
Showcasing Rural Heritage on a Global Stage
Animal Husbandry Department Director Dr. Naveen Parihar explained that women in Pushkar and nearby villages like Tabija and Dumada routinely travel on bullock carts to gather fodder for their cows and buffaloes. This quintessential picture of rural life will now be showcased on the prominent platform of the international Pushkar fair. The planned grand parade featuring these rural women will present a unique glimpse into the agricultural and livestock-rearing traditions of the region, celebrating the daily labor and heritage of village women.
Marwari Horse Rewan Gait Competition
Another major highlight for visitors this year will be a special Rewan gait competition showcasing Marwari breed horses. Marwari horses possess a distinct identity and a specialized characteristic gait known as the Rewan gait. Such a specialized competition has not been organized on a large scale at the Pushkar fair previously. Preparations are now underway to host this contest for the first time, offering horse enthusiasts and tourists an entirely novel experience.
National and International Flair in Equestrian Sports
The traditional show jumping and tent pegging competitions held annually at the Pushkar fair are set to be organized on a much grander scale this time. According to organizers, several national-level sports competitors along with international show jumpers are likely to attend the fair. Participants have already shown keen enthusiasm to showcase their talent at the event. These thrilling equestrian sports will undoubtedly elevate the excitement and grandeur of the gathering.
