A gruesome discovery in the New Usmanpur area of North East Delhi triggered panic early this morning after the blood-soaked body of a 19-year-old man was found inside the DDA park in Shastri Park. The victim has been identified as Mohammad Tohid, a resident of K-Block in New Seelampur. Passersby who spotted the body first raised the alarm, after which local residents alerted the police.
Tohid stepped out Saturday night, never returned
According to those close to him, Mohammad Tohid left his house around 10 pm on Saturday night. He did not return home afterward, and by Sunday morning his body was found lying in the DDA park, suggesting he was killed sometime during the night.
Police and forensic team rush to the spot
As soon as news of the killing spread, New Usmanpur police station staff, senior officers from the North East district and a forensic team reached the location. The body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination, while officers began collecting evidence from the scene to piece together what happened.
Personal enmity suspected, CCTV footage being scanned
Investigators believe the murder could be the result of personal enmity, though police say they are examining every possible angle before drawing conclusions. To trace the killers and establish a motive, footage from CCTV cameras installed around the park is being reviewed to reconstruct movement in and around the area overnight.
This is not the first time this particular DDA park in Shastri Park has made headlines for the wrong reasons. Cases involving murders and bodies being discovered here have surfaced in the past as well, which has made the spot a sensitive one for the locality. For now, police say they are conducting a thorough investigation and expect to identify the culprits soon.
Two active members of the notorious Thak-Thak gang arrested
In a separate development, Delhi Police scored another success by arresting two active members of the notorious Thak-Thak gang. The accused have been identified as Gangesh Naidu and Vikram, both residents of Dakshinpuri, Ambedkar Nagar. Recovered from their possession were 6 lakh rupees in cash, a laptop, a MacBook, mobile phones, gold and silver jewellery, Samsung earbuds, a watch, burglary tools and the scooty used in the crime.
With this arrest, police have cracked three theft and burglary cases reported across Delhi-NCR. Acting on a tip-off received on June 30, the AATS team laid a trap and nabbed both accused. During questioning, it emerged that the duo are active members of an interstate Thak-Thak gang, a network known for distracting victims using a technique the police call the thak-thak method, before stealing cash and valuables from cars. Technical investigation and interrogation further linked the accused to multiple cases registered in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Karnataka.
