The Union Public Service Commission has completed 100 years since its establishment. To mark this milestone, a centenary celebration was held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending as the chief guest. Commending the commission's long-standing role in building India's administrative framework, the Prime Minister highlighted its institutional legacy and unveiled special commemorative items.
Release of Commemorative Coin, Postage Stamp, and Book
During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially released a centenary commemorative coin and a special postage stamp honouring the commission's century-long journey. He also unveiled a comprehensive book capturing 100 landmark decisions associated with public service commissions. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized that public trust in the commission remains steadfast while offering recommendations regarding candidate evaluation benchmarks for modern governance.
Tracing the Journey Back to 1926
The institutional foundations of the commission trace back to 1926, when it was initially established as the Public Service Commission. Over the subsequent hundred years, the body evolved to oversee recruitment for prestigious administrative, police, and central allied services. Its century of operations has set standardized, merit-based entry norms for governance across the nation.
High Candidate Participation Across National Exams
The scale of public participation highlights the commission's central place in youth career aspirations. In 2025 alone, between 10 to 12 lakh students appeared across various examinations conducted by the commission. Notably, over 9 lakh candidates registered specifically for the Civil Services Examination, reflecting widespread engagement and enduring confidence in the institution's examination framework.
