A major political and religious controversy has broken out in the national capital following allegations of sloganeering and disruption inside Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. In response to the commotion and the subsequent circulation of footage on social media, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) submitted a formal complaint directly to the Delhi Police Commissioner. The committee demanded strict legal action against leaders, legislators, and workers affiliated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Notably, the written submission also explicitly names Arvind Kejriwal.
Allegations of Pre-Planned Protest and Breach of Sanctity
In the complaint formally delivered on October 11, 2026, the gurdwara management alleged that party workers and supporters arrived at the religious shrine in a coordinated manner. Once inside the premises, the group began chanting partisan political slogans and staging a demonstration. The committee stated that conducting a political demonstration within the sacred shrine caused direct harm to its religious sanctity, traditional decorum, and spiritual environment.
Accusations of Circulating Selective Video Clips
According to the complaint, management staff and sewadars had to intervene quickly to defuse the escalating tension and restore order across the compound. The DSGMC alleged that following the confrontation, certain AAP legislators and office bearers shared video clips online while leveling counter-allegations against the gurdwara administration itself. The committee claimed that only selective portions of the footage were deliberately pushed into the public domain to present a distorted version of the sequence of events. Furthermore, the complaint alleged that Arvind Kejriwal publicly endorsed and supported these claims.
Demands for Evidence Preservation and Impartial Probe
To assist law enforcement in establishing the facts, the DSGMC provided authorities with video footage of the incident and requested that police identify every individual visible in the recordings. The management committee urged the Delhi Police to track down not just those present on the ground, but also the individuals responsible for orchestrating and directing the demonstration. The submission requested the immediate preservation of all relevant evidence, alongside a prompt, transparent, and lawful investigation into the entire episode.
The controversy unfolds against a backdrop of wider political friction in Delhi, as leaders of the INDIA bloc prepare to take to the streets over the SIR issue and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Heightened security remains in place across key areas following a 'Chalo Delhi' call issued by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
