British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on Monday that the alleged conspiracy to target the American military airbase at RAF Fairford in England was directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. According to formal assessments by British authorities, the coordination of this dangerous plot was established with high probability inside Iran and executed under the direct guidance of the IRGC. Burnham firmly warned that the United Kingdom will never tolerate such security threats on its domestic soil, making it clear that accountability will be pursued vigorously.
The British leader noted that earlier indications had already pointed strongly toward Iranian involvement in the planned attack on the facility last month. This specific airbase had been utilized by American bomber aircraft to conduct missions targeting Iran amid ongoing military engagements. In direct response to the escalating diplomatic friction, the British government summoned the Iranian ambassador on Monday to register official displeasure and lodge a formal reprimand over the hostile activities.
Authorities accused Tehran of continuously attempting to undermine the security of Britain and its international allies through criminal networks, allied armed factions, and state-backed malicious operations. Amid these mounting tensions, the United States decided to relocate its bomber aircraft away from RAF Fairford the previous week. The administration under President Donald Trump expressed serious concern that the installation faced imminent threats from Iranian forces aiming to inflict maximum casualties on American personnel and destroy military hardware. The comprehensive investigation into the entire security breach remains active.
Seven Suspects Arrested and Released on Bail
In connection with the thwarted conspiracy, law enforcement agencies have arrested a total of seven individuals during subsequent security sweeps. However, all of the detained suspects have currently been released on bail while inquiries proceed, and formal criminal charges have not yet been filed against anyone. Police records indicate that the ages of all the arrested suspects range between 20 and 29 years old. Among them, six individuals hold British citizenship, while one person possesses dual nationality encompassing both the United Kingdom and Iran.
According to police statements, a major security operation was deployed across the rural surroundings near the airbase on September 27. During this intensive sweep, a significant number of local residents were temporarily evacuated from their homes and escorted to designated safe areas. Heavily armed police officers alongside specialized military bomb disposal experts combed the countryside for potential hazards. Investigators later revealed that three vans linked to the initial five suspects contained quantities of petrol, which could have potentially been utilized as incendiary material, although thorough searches yielded no actual explosives.
