The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, where devotees worship the deity and offer his favorite delicacies. Modak remains the most beloved sweet for the elephant-headed god. While traditional modaks made from coconut, jaggery, or khoya are staples in many households, trying something unique this festive season can bring excitement, especially for the younger members of the family. Dark chocolate modaks offer a wonderful contemporary alternative that requires minimal ingredients and is remarkably straightforward to prepare at home.
Ingredients Needed For Dark Chocolate Modak
To craft this delightful sweet, gather 150 grams of dark chocolate, half a cup of condensed milk, half a cup of milk powder, 2 tablespoons of finely chopped cashews and almonds, 1 small spoon of ghee, half a small spoon of cardamom powder, and some finely chopped dry fruits reserved for garnishing.
Step 1: Begin by chopping the dark chocolate into smaller pieces. Melt the chocolate gently either by using a double boiler method or by heating it on a low flame for short intervals, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
Step 2: Heat a spoon of ghee in a non-stick pan. Add the condensed milk and milk powder to the pan, blending them thoroughly. Keep stirring constantly to prevent the mixture from sticking to the surface or scorching.
Step 3: Once the mixture begins to thicken, pour in the melted dark chocolate. Simultaneously, incorporate the cardamom powder along with the chopped cashews and almonds, mixing everything evenly.
Step 4: Continue cooking and stirring the mixture until it completely pulls away from the edges of the pan and gathers into a cohesive mass. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool down slightly.
Step 5: Grease the modak molds lightly with a little ghee. Press the prepared mixture firmly into the molds and carefully demold them. Repeat this process to prepare the remaining modaks.
Step 6: Garnish the finished dark chocolate modaks with chopped nuts or chocolate shavings. Chill them briefly in the refrigerator before serving. Offer them as prasad to Lord Ganesha during the prayers and enjoy these delectable sweets with your family.
