A simple idli has turned into a local sensation at Fusro market in Bokaro, Jharkhand. A mobile stall there sells an idli burger and idli chaat for just Rs 10 each, and the dish now pulls in customers from well beyond the neighbourhood.
The vendor, Sunil, says he began experimenting with the humble idli after noticing what his customers wanted. Over time, those experiments turned into a full menu, and today the biggest demand at his stall is for the idli burger and idli chaat.
How the idli burger is made
Sunil explained the process step by step. A soft idli is first sliced through the middle, then shaped like a burger bun. A special almond based chutney is stuffed inside, followed by finely chopped onion and small pieces of lettuce. The dish is finally garnished with sev and sweet tamarind chutney before it is served to customers. It is this combination that sets his idli burger apart from typical street food.
200 pieces sold every single day
Sunil runs his mobile stall at Fusro market daily between 12 noon and 5 in the evening. In that five hour window alone, he manages to sell around 200 pieces of the idli burger, a figure that reflects just how popular the stall has become in the area.
Customers travel 13 kilometres for the taste
Ravi Kumar Sah, a customer who came to try the idli burger, said he lives in Nawadih. According to him, this particular taste is not available anywhere in his area, which is why he travels around 13 kilometres just to eat the idli burger at this stall. His comment shows that Sunil's stall has built a reputation that now extends well beyond Fusro itself.
