Tragedy has struck Spanish football following the death of CD Tenerife centre-forward Jesus de Miguel after an on-field collision during a second-tier league match. The fatal accident took place during an intense encounter against FC Andorra. The 30-year-old Spanish forward was actively pursuing possession of the ball when he collided heavily with the opposing side's goalkeeper, prompting officials to immediately abandon the match at a 2-2 scoreline deep into stoppage time.
Midfield Collision Near the Halfway Line
The incident unfolded during the final moments of the fixture as both sides pushed for a late breakthrough. Jesus de Miguel was sprinting to secure the ball near the halfway line when he ran directly into FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono. The violent impact struck de Miguel directly in the chest, causing him to collapse onto the turf and instantly lose consciousness in front of his stunned teammates and match officials.
Emergency Resuscitation and Hospitalization Efforts
Medical teams rushed onto the pitch within moments of de Miguel losing consciousness. Recognizing the extreme gravity of the situation, emergency medical personnel administered CPR on the pitch for more than five minutes in an urgent attempt to revive him. He was subsequently placed in an ambulance and transported to the hospital. The severe blunt force trauma to his chest is believed to have triggered cardiac arrest, and despite sustained resuscitation efforts by medical specialists, his condition did not improve.
