Law enforcement authorities in Gujarat conducted a targeted weekend operation, busting an illegal liquor gathering held inside a private farmhouse in the Sultanabad area of Surat on Saturday. The event was reportedly arranged to celebrate the birthday of one of the attending women. During the raid, officers detained 22 individuals, comprising 14 men and 8 women, all subsequently placed under formal arrest. The arrested persons belong to the age bracket of 25 to 30 years and reside in different neighbourhoods across Surat.
Seizure of Alcohol, Vehicles, and Mobile Devices
The raid took place at a property named Bapuji Ni Vadi following specific intelligence received by local police. Upon entering the premises, officers discovered half-filled glasses containing alcoholic beverages, five opened bottles of liquor, and multiple beer cans. In addition to the contraband, police seized 9 motor cars parked at the venue along with personal mobile phones belonging to the attendees. Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Shweta Daniels confirmed the details of the seizure and noted that prompt action was taken after receiving information about the ongoing party.
Strict Legal Framework under Gujarat Prohibition Act
Gujarat operates strictly as a dry state, enforcing a comprehensive legal ban on the production, distribution, storage, sale, and personal consumption of alcoholic drinks. Following the raid at the Sultanabad venue, law enforcement officials registered a formal case under the provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act. Investigations are actively proceeding to trace the supply source of the alcohol brought to the private event.
