In a major operation in Haryana, police in Karnal intercepted a truck traveling from Delhi to Chandigarh and uncovered a massive haul of illegal drugs. The vehicle appeared to be transporting routine sacks of cashew shells, but a deeper inspection by law enforcement revealed an elaborate smuggling attempt involving crores of rupees worth of marijuana. Authorities have successfully arrested two individuals related to the operation who share an uncle-nephew relationship.
Action Based on Intelligence Inputs
The operation was executed by the Anti-Narcotics cell of Karnal. Acting on a tip-off regarding a suspicious vehicle moving from Delhi towards Chandigarh, the Pal police in Gharaunda intercepted the truck on the route. When officers questioned the driver and cleaner about the cargo, they calmly claimed the truck was loaded entirely with cashew shell sacks.
Discovery Beneath the Outer Layer
Suspicious of the initial responses, the police decided to conduct a thorough physical check of the cargo hold. As officers began removing the outer layers of sacks, they discovered a hidden compartment containing 19 large bags stuffed with marijuana leaves. Upon official weighing, the total recovery of pure marijuana leaves exceeded 519 kilograms, carrying a market valuation running into crores of rupees.
Details of the Accused and Vehicle
Investigating Officer Pradeep from the Anti-Narcotics department confirmed that the consignment consisted entirely of raw marijuana leaves. The two arrested suspects are closely related as uncle and nephew. During initial questioning, the driver claimed ownership of the truck. Furthermore, police records indicate that the vehicle is registered in the state of Rajasthan, while the registered owner hails from Nuh in Haryana.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
Following the seizure, both suspects remain in police custody as investigators attempt to trace the broader supply chain and identify other potential conspirators involved in this interstate trafficking network. Investigating Officer Pradeep stated that the accused will be presented before the court on Wednesday, where authorities intend to pursue further legal steps to uncover the origin and intended destination of the narcotic consignment.
