A longstanding confrontation over road access to a mining site turned violent in Bhonda village, Raipur, located in Bharatpur district. An altercation between local villagers and lease operators rapidly escalated into widespread chaos, involving stone-pelting, sticks, and reports of gunshots. Former MLA Atar Singh Bhadana sustained critical injuries during the violent brawl and was subsequently referred to a medical facility in Jaipur for advanced treatment.
Two-Year Dispute Over Grazing Land Access
At the center of the confrontation is a pathway leading directly to the lease operational area. Local residents have strongly opposed the use of this road, pointing out that it passes through common village grazing land. The dispute over commercial traffic across this pasture has been simmering for approximately two years. Tensions have boiled over on numerous prior occasions, resulting in multiple altercations between both sides as the land-use disagreement remained unresolved.
Mining Lease Held by Family of Former MLA
The operational lease at the heart of the standoff is registered under Kamlesh Bhadana, the wife of former MLA Atar Singh Bhadana. The dispute regarding access through the village common land has pitted their side against local villagers. During the latest confrontation, arguments over passage rights quickly spun out of control, resulting in the physical assault and Bhadana sustaining serious trauma.
Heavy Police Deployment Restores Uneasy Calm
The violent clash plunged the village into panic and tension for nearly an hour. Upon receiving emergency alerts, police units arrived at the scene to disperse the groups and secure the perimeter. A substantial police contingent has been stationed throughout the area to preserve order and prevent further violence. Authorities are monitoring the area closely, noting that an investigation is actively underway to determine the sequence of events, verify reports of gunfire, and take appropriate action against those responsible.
