A major infrastructure push aimed at decongesting key traffic corridors in Gurugram received official clearance during a high-level meeting of the High Powered Works Purchase Committee held in Chandigarh. Chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the committee sanctioned three strategic road engineering projects carrying a cumulative expenditure of Rs 136.41 crore. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been tasked with executing the civil works, which consist of two elevated flyovers and a comprehensive grade-separated underpass designed to eliminate bottleneck intersections across critical residential and commercial sectors.
Budget Breakdown and Strict 18-Month Construction Timeline
Financial allocations approved for the works outline distinct resource commitments for each critical choke point. The construction of the Dadi Sati Chowk flyover will involve an outlay of Rs 43.05 crore, while the four-lane elevated corridor at Ambedkar Chowk has been granted Rs 36.36 crore. The underpass near the Millennium City Centre Metro Station represents the largest single investment at Rs 57 crore. To ensure timely delivery and minimal disruption to daily commuters, authorities have stipulated an 18-month execution window for each project starting from the official date of tender allotment. Implementing grade-separated road layouts at these junctions is expected to cut idle wait times at traffic signals, leading to fuel conservation and smoother vehicular movement.
Six-Lane Elevated Corridor at Dadi Sati Chowk
To cater to rapid urbanization across New Gurugram, an 840-metre long six-lane flyover will be constructed at Dadi Sati Chowk, which sits at the intersection of Sectors 85-86 and 89-90. The elevated structure will provide unhindered transit for vehicles moving through emerging housing colonies and commercial complexes in the peripheral sectors. The engineering blueprint also includes a 7.5-metre wide U-turn beneath the deck to streamline local turns. Flanking the main corridor, dedicated service lanes, two-metre wide pedestrian footpaths, modern traffic signals, road markings, and upgraded street lighting will be established to safeguard pedestrians and prevent traffic intermixing.
Ambedkar Chowk to Receive 930-Metre Four-Lane Flyover
In the central portion of the city, a 930-metre long four-lane flyover will be built over Vikas Marg at the bustling junction connecting Sectors 45-46 and 51-52. This corridor carries heavy medical transit, and the elevated bypass will substantially improve direct connectivity for people visiting Park Hospital and Arihant Hospital. Civil plans incorporate side service roads, slip lanes, two sheltered U-turns underneath the elevated roadway, and covered drain-cum-footpath configurations on both sides. Comprehensive road safety markers and optimized illumination setups are also incorporated into the project blueprint.
Underpass, Solar Integration, and Water Harvesting near Metro Station
Significant traffic pressure at the busy crossing of Sectors 27-29 and 43-44 will be addressed through a sunken underpass built adjacent to the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. The project spans an overall approach length of 1,350 metres, dividing into a 625-metre ramp towards IFFCO Chowk and a 725-metre stretch leading towards Ardee City. The plan integrates additional dedicated U-turns serving both transit directions, alongside 9.5-metre wide service roads and 2.5-metre wide footpaths on each flank.
Pedestrian connectivity around the transit terminal will be reinforced through a 300-metre long covered foot overbridge fitted with four elevators and escalators to facilitate easy access for metro commuters. In line with sustainable infrastructure norms, the facility will incorporate on-grid solar panels for clean energy generation and two rainwater harvesting setups, each equipped with an operating capacity of 2 lakh litres.
Authority Focus on Expanding Road Capacity
Highlighting the strategic importance of the sanctioned works, GMDA Chief Executive Officer PC Meena stated that completing these three engineering interventions will relieve congestion across high-density junctions, sharply reduce commuting times, and create a far safer transit environment for drivers and pedestrians alike. He noted that these projects represent vital steps toward aligning Gurugram's arterial road network with its rapidly growing demographic and urban transportation demands, reiterating GMDA's commitment to delivering upgraded civic infrastructure across the city.
